Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
LitClique is a book club app made by Robert Brady ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app and its web pages use, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: we keep your club's data so the club works, we use no ads and no tracking, we never sell your data, and you can delete your account inside the app.
Who this covers
- Organizers and app users sign in with an email link or Sign in with Apple.
- Members can join from a link with only a name. No account is needed. An email address is optional.
What we store, and why
All club data is stored in our database, hosted by Supabase, so that everyone in the club sees the same thing.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and display name, if you sign in | To sign you in and show your name to your club |
| A member's name, optional email, optional dietary notes, optional Venmo and Cash App names | So the organizer can resend your link, plan food, and so the club can settle up. Visible to members of the same club only |
| Nominations, pitches, votes, Spin results, polls and availability answers, meetings, RSVPs, potluck dishes | To run the club |
| Expenses, shares and recorded payments (premium) | So the club can see who owes whom. LitClique only records; it never holds or moves money |
| Book ratings and short notes | For the club shelf, visible to members of the same club |
| A secret personal link for each member (we store only a one-way hash of it) | So a member can come back without an account |
| Your IP address in short-lived counters | To stop abuse, such as someone guessing invite codes. These counters are deleted within 2 days |
Your vote is private: members see the results, not who voted for what, and your availability answers are shown to the club as counts.
Receipt photos
Reading a receipt is optional and a premium feature. If you choose a photo, the app shrinks it and sends it through our server to Anthropic's API, which reads the total, tax, tip, merchant and date. We do not store the photo and we do not log it. The suggested amounts come back to your phone and you confirm them before anything is saved. Anthropic handles the photo under its own privacy policy and commercial terms. If you would rather not, type the amount instead.
Searching for books
When you search for a book, your search text is sent from your device to Google Books and Open Library, which have their own privacy policies. We do not see or store your searches.
Getting the book
The "Get the book" sheet offers a library search (WorldCat), Bookshop.org and Libro.fm. Tapping a link opens that website, which has its own privacy policy. If you type a ZIP code for library searches, it stays on your device and is added to the WorldCat link you open; we never receive it. Some of these links may become affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy; it never changes your price or our picks, and the Spin and votes never use links, prices or retailers.
Purchases
Organizers can subscribe to Premium through the App Store. Apple handles payment. We use RevenueCat to check whether a club's subscription is active; RevenueCat receives an identifier for the club (not your name or email) and purchase details. Members are never charged. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
On your device
The app and web pages keep small things on your device: your personal member link, dismissed milestone banners, your library ZIP, and rating-prompt timing. Clearing your browser data or deleting the app removes them.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs, and no tracking across other companies' apps and websites.
- No sale or sharing of personal data.
- No location data and no access to your contacts.
- No direct messages or public profiles: nothing is visible outside your club.
Deleting your data
In the app: Settings, then Delete my account (also on the Your clubs screen). This removes your account and memberships. Clubs you organize pass to the longest-standing co-host, or are deleted if there is none. Your name in remaining club records becomes "Former member".
Members without an account can ask their organizer to remove them, or email us and we will delete their data.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings.
Backups may keep deleted data for a short time before they are overwritten.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California) you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, or to object to its use. Email us to use them.
Children
LitClique is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
